I went there about two weeks ago to have the bindings on my new skis adjusted. Instead of asking specific questions, the first thing they did was explain that they also sell skis themselves. Since I hadn't bought the skis there, they told me the cost was €60, not €18 as with older skis. It's understandable that they would have liked to sell me a new pair of skis, but I still think the price is extortionate, as it's more than three times higher than for "older" models. I should have left right then and there. Furthermore, the "salesman" (an old white man with a belly) wasn't exactly service-oriented or customer-focused. For me, it's quite clear: this was the last time I'll ever set foot in that store. Next time, I'll go back to Decathlon, or to a sporting goods store near me (Fellbach). I thought I was doing them a favor and supporting local businesses, but certainly not like this. One star is still awarded (less is not possible) because the two employees present (male and female) when I picked up the skis were friendly and respectful.

Costs: €35 Service €18 Binding Adjustment €10 Express Surcharge (Drop-off Monday, Pick-up Thursday) = €63 Procedure: I call: "Can I drop off the skis on Monday and pick them up Thursday morning?" Employee: "Yes. +€10 express surcharge." Then I lugged my skis and boots there – on site: Employee: "Thursday will be tight – are your skis and boots older than 4 years?" Me: "Yes." Employee looks at the bindings... Employee: "I'm not adjusting the bindings for you – they're too old." I left again – I'm taking the items directly to the service center now... Stars: - 1 star for the high costs (or rather, the express surcharge) - 2 stars for the lack of service - 1 star for the incorrect appointment scheduling + 1 star for the sense of responsibility Edit: + 1 star for the detailed response to my review = 3 stars Conclusion: Are your skis and boots older than 4 years? Then don't take them to Sport Katzmaier. Correction: If it really is the case that in the event of an accident on the slopes, the company that last adjusted the bindings is liable – then I can understand the technician's decision. It was just poorly worded on site. I didn't get the impression that any effort was made to find a solution. Nevertheless, I'm revising my rating by + 1 star and thank you for the detailed response here on Google.

Owner's response

Dear Mr. Röther,

Thank you for your detailed and transparent feedback. We regret that your visit with us was inconvenient and disappointing – this does not reflect our standards for service and communication.

We would like to explain the process and our decision:

The express surcharge refers to priority processing within the requested time frame. However, this is always contingent upon the equipment being technically and safety-wise adjustable after a visual inspection. Unfortunately, this final check can only be carried out on-site.

During the inspection of your skis and especially your ski boots, it was determined that they are significantly older than initially thought. Over the years, the plastic in ski boots can become brittle, posing a considerable risk of breakage and injury. Bindings can also lose their reliable function due to age – even if they appear outwardly intact.

As a specialist retailer, we bear a great responsibility for the safety of our customers. Furthermore, we are legally obligated to guarantee correctly adjusted bindings for several years. For these reasons, we are neither permitted nor able to adjust bindings on safety-relevant, outdated equipment. This decision is solely for your safety.

We would like to clarify the following:

We will, of course, adjust bindings on skis older than four years, provided the skis, bindings, and ski boots are in safe, compliant condition. Therefore, the blanket statement that we generally do not adjust equipment older than four years is incorrect.

We regret that the timeline and expectations were not communicated optimally in your case and will take this into consideration for improvement. We thank you for your understanding and for the additional star rating for our commitment to responsibility.

We would be happy to advise you personally at any time on safe alternatives or a suitable solution for your equipment.

Sincerely,
Your Team at Sport Katzmaier

I wanted to rent the Ski Mojo exoskeleton and buy it after a satisfactory test. Mr. Katzmaier convinced me to buy the Ski Mojo directly, despite the additional cost. He fitted the exoskeleton perfectly for me. I can only say, I'll never go back. It's like switching from a regular bike to an e-bike. Thank you so much for the excellent service.

The sports shop is a family business. Very good advice, the employees take time for each customer. Ski and snowboard rental. Wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately no parking spaces, the shop is on a one-way street.

Wow! What an awesome staff! I called up to get four snowboards waxed the same day. They told me no problem. I brought them I. Thinking I would be dropping them off to pick up later. Nope! They knocked them out right away! Everyone spoke great English and were so friendly and helpful! They don’t take credit cards so bring Europe German bank card. Will definitely be returning here for all my future needs.
