Le Grand Bâtard de Bourgogne

We have bought six bikes here and always have them serviced/repaired here. No intention to go anywhere else. First of all, they sell good bikes. Second, their informed and helpful customer service is second to none. Third, they look after you and your bike, and take responsibility for you. It's almost more like a club than a business.

Excuse me, I only wanted service and repairs, not to buy a new bike from you for at least €4,000... You used to be able to get bikes repaired competently. Now, a quick check on a four-year-old bike resulted in the responses: "It's not worth it anymore with the drive unit," "Everything needs to be replaced," "It's too much work for us," "We make our money on sales"... Speechless... Now I know why I can, or rather should, buy new bikes cheaper online. I can gladly do without this kind of customer service.
Owner's response
Dear Mr. Gaul, I am sorry that you were not satisfied with our service. Unfortunately, it is indeed the case that our workshop has been suffering from a staff shortage for years, and therefore we are currently only repairing bicycles that were purchased from us. This has nothing to do with your bicycle being "too bad" for us, but is simply a capacity issue. It is also important to us to inform customers when, in our opinion, the cost-benefit ratio of a repair is unfavorable for them. This has nothing to do with us preferring to sell new bicycles or even earning more money on a new one; it is simply a matter of course for us so that customers have a basis for deciding whether or not they want to have their bicycle repaired.

The shop dependent was very kind, but when I went to repair mi bike, he said that my pedal was complete damaged and that it won't. He asked me for 300 Eur TO ORDER A COMPLETELY NEW SET. I was asking to hamer it a bit and try to fixed, he said, I don't have time for this. THen I went home try a bit to fixed and my bike was perfectly fine. He is a tricker. Make a favor to your pocket and don't repair your bike in this shop.
Owner's response
Hey Anrdey, my collegue from the workshop can remember you and your bike and is pretty dissapointed that you call him a tricker! Not really fair: It‘s not your pedal but the crank that has been broken and to repair it properly you needed a new crankset and chain. Unfortunately Corona cuts supplys and all we could offer was a high quality crank set (this is not our fault but a major problem all workshops struggle with). There was nothing cheaper available (if we had a cheaper crank set, we would have offered this to you). And this is also why we did not do the repair.<br>And yes: sometimes you can hammer a crank back on and it works for a while. But please, you must understand that this is not the way a professional workshop can do it. We are responsable for our repairs, we have to fix stuff „fachmännisch“ and make sure that it is safe and long lasting. You ride a mountainbike: what if you are on the trail, your crank falls of and you have an accident. This is why my colleague refused to do such a repair. I wouldn‘t call this a tricker but responsibility.

Had one tire fixed, maybe one tire replaced and two break pads as well. This at the astronomical cost of €120. The repairman took three hours to do this. So, mind the rip-off (especially if you're an international student), don't trust them and of course fix the price beforehand (my bad).

The staff is very unfriendly and they scam people with very high prices for their goods and recommendations. In other bike shops prices are a lot better from the costumer point of view with the same quality.

Simply the best bike shop in Tübingen. Meike and Thomas (owners) quickly win your heart (and brain) with their helpful, unrushed, and genuine advice on all topics related to cycling. They helped me purchase my TX-400 fahrradmaufaktur bike in 2014, and spent countless hours (free of charge) preparing and advising me for my first bicycle touring in Central Asia. I've been super happy with how they've handled all my follow-up visits, purchases and yearly bike maintenance/repair in the last >4 years, and will continue showing up here for anything related to cycling.

The advice was first-class, even on my first visit. They took their time and tailored their advice to my wishes, needs, and price range, which isn't always a given. I initially focused on three or four models, but I also looked around for other potential bike shops – and ultimately decided clearly on FahrRadLaden! Having narrowed down my selection to two models, I received another round of very competent and concise advice. After a test ride, I finally decided on the bike, which I bought from FahrRadLaden exactly one week ago – and I'm very happy with my choice. I'm sure this will continue to be "my" FahrRadLaden in the future – especially when it comes to service.

Excellent, efficient repair service. During a tour across Europe I arrived one afternoon needing critical repairs to my hub dynamo before I left the following day. Udo was kind enough to do all my repairs that afternoon. His excellent friendly was a tour saver. Thanks.
