I've been a very satisfied customer of Detlef's for four years. He has my complete trust and is incredibly customer-oriented. My 40-year-old bicycle is always lovingly maintained, and riding it is a joy. The prices are extremely fair, and Detlef is a very nice person with whom it's always pleasant to have a chat. Everything about his shop is just right; for me, it's the best bike shop.

My bike was repaired quickly and professionally. The price was absolutely fair, and the communication was excellent. All in all, I can highly recommend this shop – and Detlef is a really nice guy too!

Detlef completely rebuilt a bike for me, exactly to my specifications. It's based on a used frame with gears, but almost all the other parts are new. The bike is fantastic! It rolls fast, is robust, and is also well-suited for carrying a lot of luggage. I'm really impressed by his "make something new out of something old" approach. You should allow some time for the initial consultation and be open to his process. He knows what he's doing, even if things seem a bit chaotic at times. The result is absolutely perfect!

I've been a customer of Detlef's for 13 years and have always been satisfied with his work. You can have a nice chat with him and even lose track of time. When my beloved racing bike developed a crack in the frame, Detlef had an almost identical frame on hand and installed all the individual parts from the old bike. It rides exactly like the old one. Highly recommended. Excellent value for money.
Owner's response
Hi Arin, as a long-time customer, you appreciate that I take on challenges. Often, it's the sheer number of parts I have in stock that makes this possible. But compatibility knowledge is probably the most important thing that comes with over 35 years of experience. "Hello?" some of you might be thinking, "He can't do math, can he?!" But I can, and you mustn't forget the years of my childhood and adolescence when I did a lot of tinkering, which has left many scars. Yes, that also contributes to my wealth of experience. Trial and error, indeed :-(<br><br>And sayings like, "If it doesn't fit, make it fit!" are easy to say... But safety must always come first, of course...<br><br>You understand that quality justifies the price over time...<br><br>What still brings me the most joy every morning is knowing that I'm making people happy...<br><br>Wisdom number one:<br><br>If you're in a hurry, go slowly...

Top bike shop and guy! Spend some time, you'll get good advice. When other bike shops tell you, "They don't have the spare part" or "It can't be repaired," they're lying. Detlef actually repairs your bike or replaces things that truly can't be repaired. A rare shop. Always happy to come back!

A Cologne institution for bicycles for almost 30 years. Mr. Meyer takes his job seriously and knows his craft. An exceptional shop, in an exceptional location, right in the heart of Cologne. There's an incredible selection of used bicycles and bicycle parts. Quality is repaired instead of thrown away. If you're looking to buy something rideable on the fly, you might be better off at a discount store. If you want competent advice on the right bike and are looking for expert service, you'll find excellent service here. The prices are very fair. We recommend calling ahead to schedule an appointment.

Detlef did a fantastic job repairing my old favorite bike. I'd previously been to four other bike shops in Cologne, none of which could fix it. Three of them did something that didn't actually solve the problem (they probably didn't even recognize the issue), and the fourth said I'd probably have to get a new bike—unless I could find that exact specific part (used). Detlef took a quick look at the bike and knew immediately how to get it running smoothly again. It's finally riding fast and without any problems! I thought the price was more than reasonable—especially considering how much money I'd wasted at the other shops. Communication was easy: call, make an appointment, come by, get a message that it's ready, and pick up the bike. If my bike ever needs anything again, it's going straight to Detlef.

I bought a used bicycle from Detlef Meyer about five years ago. You call ahead to make an appointment, tell him your general requirements and leg length, and he'll find a few suitable frames for you (the shop is located in a railway archway, filled with several rows of used bicycles – an incredibly large selection!). My bike is wonderful, not too flashy (to avoid theft), and has been regularly serviced and repaired by Detlef Meyer at fair prices ever since. For minor issues, I can sometimes get an appointment in between, so my bike is back on the road quickly. Tip: Call ahead! The shop isn't the easiest to find, and sometimes the gate to the railway grounds is locked. I once found myself standing in front of locked doors and, stupidly, didn't have my phone with me to call and have him open the gate for me. I'm very happy with him – a wonderful shop right in the heart of the neighborhood!

I stopped by today out of curiosity to browse through the selection. Detlef certainly knows his stuff; he has a great variety of used and new items at very fair prices! If you ask nicely, you can even get tools and brief instructions and repair tips, especially for minor issues that can be fixed on the spot in just a few minutes. If you're on a budget or simply looking for something unusual or vintage, this is the place to go. As for the complete bicycles, I can only say that the selection seemed extensive.

The shop is fantastic. You get good advice here. The owner takes his time and pays attention to details. Here, you can find your "favorite bike." I wanted a trekking bike, and Detlef Meyer picked out the right frame for my size and then built it exactly the way I needed it. My husband wanted one too, but they didn't have the right frame available at the time. A few months later, we received a call saying the right frame was available and asked if we were still interested. Where else can you find someone who still remembers your wishes even after a long time? We are very satisfied. Detlef Meyer finds the right solution for every cycling problem.
