Very friendly and always well-equipped. The children love coming here. And they're very knowledgeable when it comes to advice. Our go-to place for all our equipment needs.

Good male advice. Female support was unpleasant and provided a poor shopping experience.

Superbly competent advice. The team takes their time and focuses on the customer's needs, rather than just pushing the most expensive option, as others do.

Last weekend, our family visited BHP in Cologne because of the excellent reviews here on Google. We bought a ball, stick, backpack, gloves, a warning card set, various grip tapes, and a hockey pen. The prices were all on the higher end (MSRP), but fair for a brick-and-mortar store with parking in the city center and good customer service. We came specifically for their large selection of artificial turf shoes. Shoes are a nightmare for my young son – if something fits, it always has to be the same model in his current size. Therefore, we only wanted to see shoes from the current season. Contrary to my wishes, however, we were sold a model from the previous season, and the manufacturer's current model wasn't even offered to us (the latter was unusual, even according to the owner). The model they sold us is hardly available anymore, making it completely unsuitable for us, something the owner simply refuses to acknowledge, even after several emails. The old model is no longer in production. The receipt stated "Model 2017/2018" in the middle of the long product description – I only noticed this at home. The small shop was incredibly busy, and after more than an hour, we just wanted to get some fresh air. I had relied on the advice I received, and the price was right. Besides, I initially thought the shoes were listed under a different item on the receipt, which was a bit longer. I find the receipt very confusing; at first glance, you associate the product description with the price above it, but the correct price is below it – a cynic might suspect something fishy. (As an example, I've scanned part of the receipt and attached it so you can see for yourselves.) The exchange offered on Tuesday (by which time my son had already trained twice in the shoes) was no longer possible – the shoes had been used (this offer was then "withdrawn" in a second email). Training without artificial turf shoes (as suggested by the shop owner) was absolutely out of the question due to the risk of injury. My suggestion – a price reduction (comparable to prices in other shops), in which case we would have simply driven to Cologne again next year to find a suitable model – was ignored. There was absolutely no goodwill gesture regarding my only complaint, even though it was only about a paltry €30 (compared to the total cost of the purchase, that was 15%; according to the owner's Google listing, there's a 20% loyalty discount, so it wouldn't have been a loss for the shop either). In my case, maximizing profit was more important than honoring their promise of customer service. A friend told me that TK in Mannheim had no such issue in a similar situation – although I've never had any problems there myself. To be fair, we should give five customers one star, because we were all incredibly disappointed (long drive, and the most important goal wasn't achieved). Fortunately, there are now many other alternatives to brick-and-mortar stores: TK in Mannheim (with its own artificial turf pitch, great deals, unfortunately only TK equipment), Hockeypoint in Kerkrade (just an hour's drive from Cologne, fantastic selection, extremely friendly staff, 14-day return policy without tedious and drawn-out discussions, small hockey pitch, about 20% cheaper, much larger selection than in Cologne), and of course the iconic BHP in Hamburg. My tip: If you don't live in Cologne, you should also check out other shops and be prepared for very long emails without any real solutions if you have problems with customer service. I found the advice and returns process to be simply better at the other shops. An alternative is to buy from the BHP online shop; no personal advice and return shipping is better than either getting poor advice or having to drive to Kerkrade or Mannheim for excellent advice.
