My bike had a flat tire, so I brought it for a repair. In addition, I bought a tire, and changed a chain for a total of 102 euros. After few days, i picked up my bike, had a 15 min ride, and my tire got kaputt again. I went back to the shop. The repair guy wanted to charge again and was highly unfriendly, saying something like "everyone thinks he is a bike repair master", once i mentioned that it's very odd that the tire got broken again after just 1 ride. I took it to another bike shop (Wulf Fahrradladen), paid 21€. The guys repaired it in a jiffy (less than 1 hour). The reason turned out to be the broken tube protector, which they replaced. It's 100% expected that the repair guy checks it before replacing the tube. From now on, I will only go to Wulf Fahrradladen guys: cheaper, faster, more professional.
Owner's response
Hello,<br>Sorry for the late reply, the post was unfortunately left at the wrong address. The entry was submitted during our city tours.<br>Unfortunately, I can't find the case under the name Zafar N.<br><br>A bicycle that has been with us for several days should have had a flat tire upon pickup if the rim tape was defective.<br>Unfortunately, we have no control over the many "flat tire devils" in our city.<br>It's a real coincidence that the tire developed a flat tire after a short ride.<br>Regarding the price, it wasn't just the flat tire, but, as described, a chain and a tire.<br>Repairing a flat tire costs €20 for the front and €23 for the rear here.<br>A tire with puncture protection now costs up to €50. For chains, it starts at €25 including installation and can easily reach €230 depending on the chain.<br>I don't know if you actually had your bike with us—I can't find anything with your name—nor what chain or tires were installed. €102 is within the normal range for all three things.<br><br>Since we always check defective tires multiple times using various methods, we can't imagine that your old rim tape was already defective when the new tube was installed, especially since the tire held up at least 4 bar for several days.<br>If such tapes are made of plastic, they are very tough and have sharp edges. At 4 bar tire pressure, the tube certainly wouldn't hold air for several days.<br>If the rim tape was made of rubber, it happens that they tear at some point. Unfortunately, I don't know when.<br>Perhaps you could contact us using your real name, then we can investigate what the problem might have been. We can look into the issue for you.<br>I wish you safe journeys and look forward to hearing from you using the name under which the order was placed.<br>Best regards,<br>Sven

Very friendly staff, reasonably priced and my bike always gets fixed one way or another. However have been disappointed a few times when things I asked to be fixed were not (they forgot or didn't write it down during the initial consultation) so either need to bring it back another time or leave it with them longer. That this has happened 3 times now (all different issues with the bike) it is starting to get pretty annoying. Edit 1. No dispute on the mechanics abilities, merely that what was asked to be fixed was not and that this has happened before on three different occasions. The mechanic not speaking English is not his fault, nor a flaw. I'm sure he has great technical skills and knowledge. 2. I spoke German and used the help of a translator when I was stuck. 3. After collecting the bike today it became apparent within the first 50m of riding it that the problem was not fixed and was in fact worse which means that the mechanic did not check to make sure that the problem was actually fixed.
Owner's response
Hi Stephanie,<br><br>Yes, your bike is still with us because there was a communication error.<br><br>Our very good mechanic doesn't speak English.<br><br>That can lead to mistakes.<br><br>If you're not completely fed up with us and decide to bring your bike back for repair, it would be great if you could bring someone along who can tell our mechanic exactly what to do.<br><br>As mentioned, he's very good, but his biggest problem seems to be that he doesn't speak all languages.<br><br>It's a shame this came to this.

The guy I spoke to was super helpful, and gave great advice, although it ended up without any work for him. Great service, I would definitely go back.

Repaired my flat tire in 2 days. Not the fastest service out here but quite good and delivered faster than their initial promise. Staff was friendly.

I can't recommend the shop. Firstly, they didn't let me leave the lock with my bike (too heavy for them to lift the bike with it). So I spent the day carrying a dirty 1.5kg lock in my purse. Secondly, I just asked them to fix a flat tire and to take a look at the newly replaced gears to see if any attunement was needed. The shop asked for 49 euros for this work! And I was told the bike would be ready on Monday (it was Sunday then). When I came back on Tuesday, I heard there was a misscommunication and that they actually meant the Monday after (they needed a whole week to fix a flat tire and to look at the gears). I asked if they could cancel the gear maintenance and just fix the tire urgently for me. They did it fast, but then they still tried to charge me for the gears maintenance also...
Owner's response
Hi Natalia,<br><br>The issue with the calculation of the gear settings was a mistake. It certainly happened because we enter the customer information into our system and also include the planned services. We're sorry about that, but thankfully it wasn't charged in the end.<br><br>Regarding all the other points, I can only assume there was a communication error.<br><br>ALL bicycles are kept with us for a week; we mention this immediately upon arrival. And we tell every customer that we'll call them when their bike is ready. This is the procedure we've followed for thousands of bicycles.<br><br>You described the difficulty of locking the bike well. Locks are very heavy, and having to lift several bicycles a day, each weighing up to 2.5 kg, isn't good for our employees' health. Often, the locks are attached to the frame in such a way that we can't actually lock the bikes by the frame.<br><br>There's a sign right at the door asking customers to remove all attachments.<br><br><br><br><br>``` We're sorry that the payment error almost led to an incorrect invoice.<br><br>We wish you safe travels!<br><br>Sven & The BBT Team

Best bicycle workshop I have visited in Berlin so far! Excellent service, thoughtful explanation of what needs and what is recommended to be repaired with transparent pricing system, as well as lots of advice on how to keep your bike in best shape in the long run. If you need to get your bike fixed and you are in Prenzlauer Berg, this is the place to go to!
