This is the best bike shop I’ve found in Berlin. I bought a used bike that had a lot of issues and went to two other shops before discovering Bike Mike. They’re fast, clear in their explanations, and very reasonably priced. The son speaks excellent English and is extremely helpful. Highly recommended!

I'm not sure I can really give a proper opinion about this store because the old lady who tried to assist me told me she didn't speak English and made no effort to understand me. I know that I should speak German in Berlin, but as a visitor I just wanted to buy a wrench to change the pedals on my bike. I didn’t feel any intention from her to help me. Anyway, I guess she won’t understand this review either since she doesn't speak English. I ended up going to a nearby shop called Bicicleta, and the person there even helped me with the installation. REPLY: Thank you for your reply. I understand that not everyone speaks English, and I absolutely respect that. My review was never about the language itself, but about the attitude and communication in the situation. When I asked for help, the only thing said to me was “I don’t speak English.” I was not told to wait or informed that there were other staff members who could assist me in English. If she had told me to wait a moment for a colleague, I gladly would have done so. Instead, I was left with no indication that help was on the way. In fact, I remained just outside the shop window for a couple of minutes searching for another store on my phone, and during that time no one came out or approached me. That is why my experience felt dismissive, and that is what my review reflects. I believe customers can and should review their personal experiences, whether positive or negative, as they happened. My intention was not to offend, but to share honest feedback so that future visitor, local or international, might have a smoother experience.

Owner's response

Hello Pablo, you're right, you can't really give a proper assessment or opinion about this store. A relatively negative assessment because of a language issue? Seriously?<br><br>When you entered the store, you should have noticed that there were other customers being served. The "older lady" you mentioned, which, by the way, isn't a nice description, greeted you politely despite the other customers present and asked if you needed any assistance. You apparently understood this perfectly. It's true that the lady doesn't speak English and informed you of this. Which you also seem to have understood. However, to suggest that the lady wasn't trying is wrong. Her colleague asked for a moment. After all, there are two other employees in the store who speak excellent English. (That's why the majority of our regular customers are English speakers.)<br><br>The lady wanted to get help! You, however, apparently didn't have time, as you left the store and didn't have even three seconds to wait. The lady grew up in a country and at a time when English wasn't taught, but Russian. The lady's ethnic background allows her to speak perhaps two other foreign languages besides German. After all, not everyone in Berlin speaks only English. What a naive misconception.<br><br>BUT...if you don't speak English, this person immediately experiences a kind of linguistic discrimination.<br><br>Linguistic discrimination, regardless of its form, is, incidentally, racism!<br><br>REPLY:<br><br>We are in Berlin...in Neukölln.<br><br>75% of our regular customers speak only English and are happy to wait 3 minutes until another colleague has time if they can't get anywhere with Google Translate.<br><br>We wish you all the best and a sunny weekend.<br><br><br>```

Came for tightening the brakes and getting a new wheel bolt. They tried to charge me 140€ for new brake cables and a new wheel. In the end they tightened the brakes for 20€, which probably took 2 minutes to do.

Owner's response

Hi Samuel, as we already told you in the shop, you need a new wheel and the brakes needed attention. However, this was too expensive for you, so you asked us to just adjust the brakes for now... as best we could.<br><br>We agreed to your request, and you were aware beforehand that it would cost around €20. We don't accept any repair orders without discussing them with the customer and providing a cost estimate.<br><br>And no, we didn't just adjust the brakes; we also trued your wheels as best we could. This is NOT a task that can be completed in two minutes. When customers pick up their bikes, we ALWAYS explain what work we've done and show them any parts we've replaced as discussed.<br><br>So it would have been better if you had asked us directly in the shop when you picked up your bike if anything was unclear, instead of writing a somewhat inaccurate review.

This is not a comment on the quality of the bike repairs, but rather about the negative temperament of the owner… I’d like to think he was just having a bad day. Still, I won’t be coming back to this shop.

Extremely helpful and well stocked bike shop, the owner also spoke English with me which I appreciate. The most helpful bike shop in Berlin would recommend.

I have gone to this bike shop regularly for years and they are so honest, well-priced, friendly, and competent. They only carry high quality products that are well-priced (but not necessarily flashy), and even though it's small I can always find what I need, whether it's a kids bike helmet, a new saddle, a light, etc.

Went to the shop to get my rear derailleur fixed. They called me just 1-2 hours later to pick up the bike. It cost only 10 euros which is a good price, but it wasn't a good job. The chain drops immediately and then a minute later again. I bring it back, they fix it, it doesn't drop anymore, but still doesn't work properly. Apart from that the owner told me I need to replace the big chainring (that is almost brand new) and the chain as well. I was wondering, because my chain checker didn't show wear above 0.5. I went to two other shops to verify and both told me the chainring looks like new. The chain also got checked with a tool both times and was under replacement wear. In the pictures you can see both the chain and chainrings. I rarely write negative comments, but when an owner of a shop tells you to replace new components, that is really not okay.

We're blessed to have this shop in the neighborhood! They just fixed my flat tire very quickly and professionally. The whole process took less than half an hour on a Saturday afternoon. I'll definitely come back if I need bike service again.

Great service, both in English and German. Took my old vintage roadbike for a repair due to weird noises, which ended up being a broken frame in the end. Although I left without the planned repair, they gave great advice and seem honest, caring and knowledgeable of bikes. Can only recommend, and will be back when my second bike needs repair 😊🙏🏻

So friendly and helpful! They were able to fix my bike in the same day and charged less than quoted... And they offered to speak English with me since I don't know the names of bike parts in German! Definitely recommend, and will go back. Thank you!
