I finally found him: the mechanic who, missing for years, noticeably adjusted the brakes while inspecting others. Very approachable, quick, very fair price, I'll be back. Five stars!

The people here give you quite the attention. I went there just for advice with no intention to buy anything and I got as much time as any other customer. Awesome!
